DVD Round-Up: Penn Says It All

February 9th, 2010 by Crackle Jack        Posted in Movies, Originals, Television | No Comments »

In the world of DVDs there are two things to mention this week. For starters, die hard Crackle fans can now own a piece of their favorite atheist, Penn Jillette, due to the release of the new Penn Says DVD. Then Iddo the Intern told me that this weekend is Valentine’s Day. So no matter whether you’re an analytical magic lover, or if you just have a man crush on Jon Favreau, this is your week.

Lindsey Pulsipher is in The Beast

February 8th, 2010 by Crackle Jack        Posted in Television | 1 Comment »

Lindsay Pulsipher is rapidly making a name for herself in Tinseltown with her upcoming work on the show True Blood. Before she got serious with bloodsuckers, Pulsipher played “Rose,” love interest to Ellis Dove (Travis Fimmel), on The Beast. Recently Pulsipher was kind enough to spend a few minutes with us to talk about her work with Patrick Swayze, her favorite movies and the origin of her unusual nickname — “Looper.”

This Week in Flicks: Nobody Likes Movies

February 5th, 2010 by Crackle Jack        Posted in Movies, Television | No Comments »

This weekend there’s a big sporting event that will dominate many people’s attention. I can’t say its name because I’ll get sued. I can say this … unless there’s money on the game, (NOT an endorsment of gambling), it doesn’t matter. I’m not saying it isn’t a compelling display of sportsmanship, but no matter who wins — I’m not going to Disneyworld. Really it’s just a bunch of millionaries fighting over pig parts that weren’t good enough to be made into bacon.

So, even though many of you will be staying in this weekend, here are some options if you do decide for “fake” drama over “real” drama …

An Unusuals Kinda’ Love

February 4th, 2010 by ambercrackle        Posted in Television | 1 Comment »

Ask any of my friends and they will tell you that I like to make sweeping pronouncements regarding media, for example: I won’t listen to any music made between 1975 and 1995. I won’t go to contemporary art museums. I won’t watch any television show that is an hour long.

Of course, there are always exceptions that prove the rule. I love Queen, there’s a wonderful taxidermied goat with a tire around it on display at LACMA, and I have quite fallen for The Unusuals. Go figure.

Behind the Scenes of Day X

February 3rd, 2010 by Crackle Jack        Posted in Movies | No Comments »

Ken2We here at Crackle are fortunate to have a number of kick-ass videophiles as viewers … and some of them are actors too. Ken Edwards is a video fan, and he’s also one of the stars of the zombie film Day X, which we’ve been fortunate to have since last October. Recently we got in touch with Ken, and it gave us a little more info on how to act with the undead.

DVD Round-Up: Zombieland

February 2nd, 2010 by Crackle Jack        Posted in Movies, Television | No Comments »

In an effort to make this blog simpler and more streamlined, I’ve decided to make today’s list of DVDs very simple: Zombieland. That’s right, the zombie shoot-em-up comedy is available on DVD today! Buy it! Rent it! DO THE ZOMBIE! Sure Zombieland is brought to you by the same people who bring you Crackle, but I also happen to like it. And now you can watch it in the comfort of your very own zombie fortress. If for some reason you’d like to watch something else, with thanks as always to Iddo the intern, here’s the lowdown.

Patrick Swayze is The Beast

February 1st, 2010 by Crackle Jack        Posted in Television | No Comments »
“Take hope from the heart of man, and you make him a beast of prey.”
- Marie Louise De La Ramee

The late, great, Patrick Swayze managed to have a long and varied career that encompassed almost every kind of movie you can name (action) Red Dawn, (romance) Dirty Dancing, (cult comedy) To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar, and (sci-fi drama) Donnie Darko — and that’s just scratching the surface. The above quote kicks off the first episode of The Beast, and it perfectly describes Swayze’s final role as Charles Barker, an FBI agent who seems to have lost faith in the system he works in.

This Week in Flicks: Rome Hits the Edge.

January 29th, 2010 by Crackle Jack        Posted in Movies | No Comments »

It’s another week, and another bunch of films are coming into your local theaters. If you’re like me, you hate exposing yourself to that pesky H1N1 and you’re pretty sure the kid dishing out the popcorn hasn’t washed his hands. If you’re going out, remember to smuggle in some pop secret under a bulky sweater. Or, just strap on a “snuggie,” settle in front of your laptop and watch a bunch of alternative movies right here on Crackle. Once again – props to Iddo the Intern for helping put this list together.

January 29th, 2010 by Chad        Posted in Community | No Comments »

Welcome to another post from our weekly series here on Crackle, where we feature a new fan every Friday. Today’s spotlight falls on Gregory Sloan, who was able to nail The Karate Kid just by seeing a glimpse of Kreese’s snake tattoo, securing his win in last Friday’s Faceoff competition. How was Greg able to recognize a sliver of scale, and karate chop his win?  Well, let’s find out:

7 Films for J.D. Salinger

January 28th, 2010 by Crackle Jack        Posted in Movies | 3 Comments »

“You take somebody that cries their goddam eyes out over phoney stuff in the movies, and nine times out of ten they’re mean bastards at heart.”

- J.D Salinger, 1919-2010

In the ’40s J.D. Salinger tried to work with Hollywood to turn some of his work into a movie. The result was 1949’s My Foolish Heart, which departed so far from his original story, “Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut,” that Salinger staunchly opposed any future adaptations of his work, including The Catcher In the Rye. At the same time, Salinger was known to be a devoted movie buff. To commemorate his recent passing we here at Crackle suggest two things, first, read Catcher. Then, check out the following movies that all have just a small dash of “Holden Caulfield” in them.
