I’m willing to bet a pack of weenies that by the end of the week most of the US will be celebrating the Fourth of July, and what goes better with tube steak than a little boob tube? Remember to take time and watch some movies and shows that make America great.
7. Mommy XXX – Fill in the blank: “As American as _______ and apple pie.” If you said “porn,” you’d be close. This Crackle Original series rolls up a bunch of American mainstays and turns them into the next on-line TV classic.
6. American Pop – America built its history on the immigrant story, and this high-concept animated movie takes that story and pairs it with some classic American music, specifically jazz and rock and roll. The capping tune of this piece is a Bob Seger classic that goes perfect with a couple of “silver bullets” and a barbecue.
5. All-Stars – Baseball may be America’s Pastime, but office softball is what keeps America’s workforce running. This online original shows us just how crazy our coworkers really are. Thank goodness most of us have the day off…
4. American Hardcore – No, this has nothing to do with porn. This is all about the Hardcore punk movement that rocked the states from ‘79 well into the ’80s. Filled with live, rare concert footage and interviews with the likes of Henrey Rollins, Flea and Dr. Know, this should play if you want to celebrate the holiday with hardcore punk flair.
3. American Dreamers – For a deeper examination of American spirit, spend some time with a few classic American characters. These guys are serious about their dreams and if you aren’t at least a little bit inspired by them – you might want to consider moving to another country.
2. American Movie – A wonderful way to follow up American Dreamer is by taking a closer look at an American with a dream: Mark Borchardt. All he wants to do is make a legendary horror movie. Watch as he brings his family, friends and most of the folks in his small Wisconsin town along for the ride.
1. The Three Stooges – Come on. Can you think of anything that makes people more proud to be Americans than Moe, Larry and Curly beating each other up for a laugh? Didn’t think so.
Hoist high the flag and strap in for some full screen Americana.
